Friday, celebrating a new recipe…

I am not a great cook but I am a good basic sort of cook.  I do not even consider making something that has ingredients I have never heard of or if you can only get them at a “specialty” store.  So, I don’t make a lot of Martha Stewart meals.  But I do find a lot of easy recipes in the newspaper, yes I still get the newspaper, some magazines, and from blogs.

I am trying to eat healthier and that includes less beef, oh I do love me some hamburger, and more fish or vegetarian meals.  For the most part I have found that vegetarian meals tend to be a bit time-consuming and have some of those never heard of things in them.  I have, however, found a blogger that has recipes of the meatless variety that are quick and have things in them that are familiar to me.

The Simple Veganista is the place.

A  favorite that I found on her blog is, Chickpea of the Sea Sandwich/Salad it’s really good…okay, this is the only recipe from the Veganista I have made so far but I am going to try more…easy to make and inexpensive.  I have made it a couple of times and shared it with a neighbor, who also liked it a lot. And this neighbor is picky!

Today, I think I will celebrate with a Chickpea of the Sea Salad.

  1. Yeah, I’m a pretty good ‘simple recipes’ cook too, but I haven’t done that much with the meatless cooking. I love making up my own recipes; I did a sort of a quick chicken stew Monday evening after work; roasted the chicken breast in the oven on a little cookie sheet for 45 minutes, then chopped it up and stirred it into the gravy and vegetables. It’s great served on those hash brown patties that they sell in the grocery freezer section. 🙂

  2. The recipe does sound good. I don’t mind a vegetarian dish or meal now and then, but I like meat and have no plans to quit eating it anytime soon! Tell Teddy hi for me!

    1. Chickpea of the Sea Salad is surprisingly satisfying. I will probably always have some meat in my diet but I am working on cutting back.

  3. Chick pea sea salad, mmm, very interesting!

    I don’t know if it’s all about aging, but I cannot seem to tolerate beef these days. After I’ve eaten some my stomach feels like a brick and I get constipated. So, I’ve been eating much less beef and much more fish. I used to LOVE steaks and burgers.

    1. I don’t know if aging is the only culprit…I think all the stuff the add to the beef may be part of the problem. Try the salad it is a lot like tuna salad.

  4. I just had to peek in the kitchen – nope, my doesn’t look like that today *whew*. Chick pea sea salad is a great thing to celebrate. I try to cut down on the meat too. I just don’t enjoy eating it as much anymore, but my ‘men’ start whining right away 😉

    1. What is it with men? But in truth I have to say it is not easy to eliminate meat from the menu. It’s a learned behavior I guess.
