Friendly Fill-Ins Week 28
- One Thanksgiving tradition I have is I decorate the door for the holidays. I try to do something different every year. Nothing expensive or extravagant just something simple.
.
2. Black Friday I stay home. No shopping in crowded stores for me. I spent years on the sales floor and always had to work Black Friday. I still work in retail but in the office and I can choose whether or not to work and I choose not to.
3. The best part about Thanksgiving Day is just staying home with the catkids pretty much doing nothing. I am not much for socializing on this day.
4. One Thanksgiving, …growing up holidays were sort of stressful and I was always happy to see them done with. Nothing, good or bad, stands out. They are no longer stressful but I still am not crazy about Thanksgiving and the start of the holiday season.
So that’s it for Thanksgiving.
I know I sound like a Grinch.

Well, if you are a grinch, then I am one too, but I really see it more as just enjoying less fuss and commotion and appreciating simplicity and quiet company… such as furkids. Everything around us seems to be about more and more and bigger is bolder. I do not enjoy shopping, or spending, or noisy dinners where a few work too hard while others sit back and watch them. Our family does not live near us, so we go out to a nice holiday buffet, then enjoy the time together at home with football and furkids and a few special treats. I am so very thankful for this life God has given me with Papa Bear, and I am thankful that both you and I can choose to stay out of the post Thanksgiving madness on Friday!!
There really is too much fuss with the holidays and it starts earlier every year. My holidays are very quiet and peaceful. It is strange how we try to cram so much of everything into a few weeks then forget about it until the next year.
I always decorate my front porch for Thanksgiving too. One year, it got covered in snow — but this year was okay. Although, I did have this chicken on a nest planter that I filled with acorns and pine cones; except this darn chipmunk kept stealing all my acorns!!! LOL
Aww, the little guy probably thought you put the stuff out for them. I miss seeing chipmunks. Where I grew up they were everywhere but I have never seen one here.
I commented yesterday, but came back to re-read and it is not here! I always like your answers. No, you are not a Grinch, you are a realist; I relate. Thank you for that, too. Hugs.
Happy Thanksgiving! Annie at ~McGuffy’s Reader~
There are many that would not agree that I am a realist they would tell you I have my head in the clouds. I think I am somewhere between the two.
I stay home on Black Friday too…eating left-overs. 🙂 Enjoy your Thanksgiving!
Left-overs are the best! Have a happy Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is everyday. Why make it just one day. And to you, Patricia, thank you for being there.
Yes, it is. Thanks for the reminder and the encouragement, Perpetua.
Crowded malls don’t appeal to me. I order everything online. Nice post, Patricia.
I like to see the shops but I try to go at off hours so the crowds are avoided. I also usually stay away from the malls and just go to neighborhood shops.
I avoid crowded shopping like the plague. Love the pics, especially the wreath. I’m going to try to let that inspire me.
If you do a wreath or something I hope you share it. I like to see what others do.
I don’t enjoy crowded shopping anytime. Fabulous fill-ins. I’m with you. 😀
The older I get the less I like crowds. It’s ok if I am just wandering through them but if I have a mission I want clear aisles and available help when I want it. 🙂
Ha ha. My sentiments exactly. 😛
Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. I like being home with my kitties for the holidays too, but I am a sucker for sales and will go out on Black Friday. Everyone loves the Grinch 🙂 Have a nice weekend.
I think if I hadn’t worked holidays in store for so many years I might go shopping on Black Friday but as it is I am happy to stay home. Happy Thanksgiving.
The older I get the less excited I get about the holidays. Such a fussing.
Me, too. I get cranky when there is too much fussing.
Amen sister!
Great reading. Enjoy thanksgiving coming soon.
Thank you. It will be nice to have a few quiet days.
