Quotes & Questions 2018 #2…

watchingqDon’t let the noise of others’ opinions
drown out your own inner voice.”
Steve Jobs

In the past, I have often let the opinions of others make decisions for me.  These days I listen to their opinions and consider them then I do what I think is best.  Took work to get to this point but it was well worth the effort.

Are the opinions of others what makes your decision or do you use their opinions as help to make the decision?

  1. I think that the older we get the more we learn to rely on our own inner voice and take opinions into consideration but not as a proclamation of who we are or what we should do. We have to remember that everyone sees each other through their own filters and opinions are so very subjective. It is far more important that we believe in ourselves than believing what others say about us!

    1. So true that it is important that we believe in ourselves and take what others say in the right spirit. I have learned to be particular as to who I listen to most closely.

  2. I guess that my development has been similar to yours, in that I used to want so badly to be liked that I’d base my decisions largely on others’ opinions, whereas these days, though I still take the opinions of others into account, I’m much more likely to smile, nod, and go on with whatever I was going to do anyway. lol. Great reminder here to stick to one’s guns, so to speak. Cheers!

      1. I get that. That’s wise. You know what helps clarify my thinking? The act of telling someone else what I think. Quite often, I hear myself speaking and suddenly realize I’ve just learned something about myself. 🙂

  3. We all need to think for ourselves. I’ve been doing that for years. We also need to know that our opinions are our opinions and you’re not going to change someone else’s opinion. It’s wasted time.

    Have a fabulous day. ♥

    1. Opinions can be tricky things. I like to hear others’ opinions but don’t want them to try and convince me they are right. Just tell what you think and why and I will take it into consideration then do what I think is best.

  4. I’ve found that when I listen to others, it doesn’t work for me. I can consider their advice but my own gut has to either agree or overrule them. Burnt too many times!

  5. I learned it the hard way that not everyone is interested in giving good advice, and that some people use it to manipulate others into doing what they want. I agree with you, I listen and consider every thing that is said, but I have the final say.
