“I think of myself as something of a connoisseur of procrastination,
creative and dogged in my approach to not getting things done.”

I can totally relate to this quote! I am a very good procrastinator. In fact, I am a PROcrastinator. There are so many things I can think of to do other than what needs to be done. I never run out of ideas of how to put off doing something.

For example, my kitchen. It took eight months to get the cabinets installed. The first cabinets were one inch wider than the wall. The second ones came in damaged. The third time was a charm…sort of…all I can say is that there are cabinets on the wall and they are fine but not exactly what I wanted. I was not happy waiting to get the work done and I complained.

Which brings us to the second part of the project, my part of the work to be done. The walls need to be sanded, primed and painted. After six weeks the walls are sanded and partially primed…no painting has been done.  Why the delay?  I do not like to sand, prime, paint and I do not like to be on a ladder. So, I have found other things to do. I read, play games on my Kindle, go for walks, take naps, important stuff like that.  Oh, and I complain about my procrastinating and not getting anything done.

I have made the decision, a promise to myself, that the work will be completed this month. Well, almost completed. The lower cabinets (that I did not replace) need to be sanded, primed and painted. The procrastination should not be as prolonged because no ladders will be involved.

I will have pictures of the finished kitchen…someday.

Are you a procrastinator?
Does it bother you or do you just accept it as
one of the quirks to love about you?

  1. I am not a procrastinator for most things. I need everything done NOW! Some things that I don’t like to do go to the bottom of the list, but they get done.

    1. Obviously, I don’t need things done NOW. When I worked I was diligent in getting everything done on time. These days I’m the boss and I say it’s okay to put things off. Maybe not for as long as I have with the kitchen. 🙂

  2. I am NOT a procrastinator. At least not of things I want done. I like painting because it give instant gratification (almost). (No I can’t come down and do yours.) However if we are talking about taxes or cleaning out musty attics, garages or basements, I’m the queen of finding something more important to do. Since it’s more important, does that count as procrastination? Well, maybe.

    1. I think procrastination is procrastination however you do it. I think it is okay to procrastinate sometimes maybe not for as long as I do but now and then it is a good thing.

  3. I am an Olympic worthy PROcrastinator. I would be procrastinating if I had to do what you are having to do. I do not like to paint. I dislike sanding and priming even more… so procrastinate, yes.I would not procrastinate over the important stuff you mention like naps and reading… 🙂 I think it does bother me a bit that I am a PROcrastinator but it clearly doesn’t bother me enough. Good Morning, Patricia… I have been MIA on vacation in Florida.

    1. It doesn’t bother me too much either. The older I get the more I reason that life is short and we need to be kind to ourselves. If that means it takes awhile to get some unpleasant tasks done so be it! How nice that you had a vacation in Florida. But I am sure it is good to be back in the nest at home.

    1. I like whatever I am doing when I am procrastinating but at the same time, I know that eventually, I have to do what I put off. Everything gets done, some things promptly some things only after some time and complaining…or maybe a lot of complaining. 🙂

  4. Hey there, Just went though your post, I wanted to give you a high five. I always have so much on my list of things to do but I constantly procrastinate. Even with the things that are of my interest.

I just gifted myself with this new guitar 3 days ago, And I have done absolutely nothing with it. Before that I had thought of learning a new song and thus making a video but Idk what happened. I also had the idea of taking some shots of my new guitar, and write some lines about it finally posting it on my blog but I fell into the arms of procrastination.
To me this happens everywhere. 🙂
