“I am not what happened to me.
I am what I choose to become.”
Carl Jung

I do not agree with the first sentence of the quote.
We often have little or no choice about what happens to us.
Some things happen to us that may determine who we are.
I do agree with the second sentence.
We can choose what we become.
I think who and what are two different things.

What do you think?

  1. It’s a paradox alright. I had nothing to do with my hearing loss, but do have control of how I let it affect me as I tool through my travels.

Our attitudes and prospectives are ours to pick and choose.

Always like the spareness of your posts. Quality over quantity 🙂

    1. It isn’t always easy to control how we feel or how we let things affect us but when we keep a watch on our thoughts and attitudes we get stronger and more able to stay in control. It’s definitely worth the effort.
As to the spareness of my posts…I edit out more than ever makes it into a post. I really tend to ramble.

      1. But editing is an art. Kill off our darlings I think is the expression. I look at my older posts and wow, it’s embarrassing how long they are. I try to keep it under 500 words but, a few sneak by, I’ll admit. Brevity is the way to go…:)

  2. We can’t control what happens to us, but we also can decide if it will define us. I had a horrible childhood. I chose not to repeat that with my son.

Have a fabulous day and weekend, my friend. ♥

    1. I had a difficult childhood and it took time to make sense of it. It was what it was and it’s in the past, not forgotten but all is well now. If we are wise we learn the right and wrong of it and move on.

  3. I agree. We can’t control what happens to us but we can have some control over how we react. And we can control what we become. Who and what are two different things, perhaps with some cross-over. Thought-provoking quote.

So tell me...what are you thinking today?
