Monday Musings…

“Clutter is the physical manifestation of
unmade decisions fueled by procrastination.”

One of my goals for 2019 was to clean out the clutter that had accumulated. There was a lot of clutter because I am a pretty good procrastinator when there is something I don’t want to do. There are things I don’t want to do that get done because if they aren’t done…well things smell and look awful and people will talk about me behind my back…and really because I can’t stand it when some things aren’t done.

Anyway back to my goal of decuttering. It’s done! Took three pick up truck loads to Goodwill to be done, one in the spring, one in the summer, one last week and a lot of stuff went in the trash. This may make me sound like a hoarder but I am not. My brother was a hoarder so I know from first hand experience what hoarding looks like.

To be truthful, there are a few things that I probably should have given away but I didn’t. They are things I don’t use and don’t really need but for now they are still here. Maybe someday they will go out the door but for now they still have sentimental value to me. That and I am afraid my mother will haunt my dreams if I give away some of her treasures.

All in all it feels good to open closets and armoires and drawers and see only things I actually use…sort of…I got tired of trying on clothes that I really like even though they don’t fit. Hey, I might lose the pounds I have gained in retirement, you know.

The other goal was to paint my apartment. I painted the kitchen then hired someone to paint the rest of the place. Except the doors. There are 18 doors and since no ladder is needed I decided I could save a few dollars and do them myself. I have three more to paint. Procrastination is in full bloom! I do have until midnight December 31 to have them done 😼

I have made the decision not to have goals for 2020.
It feels good to know there will be no procrastination stress.

  1. I have this special system where I look an an object, and ask myself, if we still have a relationship. I do this with all things. If something leaves me cold, then out it goes so it can have a relationship with someone new.
I broke up withe 4 pair of shoes recently. They were all nice, decent sort of shoes, but we seemed to have outgrown each other. It happens as you age.

I’m glad you’re back to musing.

    1. I am not that disciplined, I guess. But I worked hard not to overthink stuff. I am glad it’s done. I am sure there will be more next year…but not 3 truckloads!

  2. Moving five years ago I had three different hanging things, angels, birds and a wooden and metal chiming one. In the move someone threw them in a box and I tried to untangle them for years. This year I just threw them out. Part of my declutter. I just found out one of my storage units price is increasing by 25% so I really need to get rid of that stuff. I have one here in WY and one in CO. πŸ™„

    1. I have never had a storage unit. That would be a dangerous thing…you know out of sight out of mind. I am glad the job is done. I am sure I will have to work on not accumulating more stuff I don’t need.

  3. You are so funny! We have annual decluttering each time digging deeper. I hate painting doors and prefer painting walls even when it involves ladders. No ceilings though. Those are the worst! Hope you finish your goal and yay for no goals. I don’t set yearly goals (although we may have a house project). If I want something done, I just do it. If I give myself a whole year you know what will happen!

    1. I don’t like painting anything except for some projects that I spray paint. Those projects are small and done in no time with little prep and clean up. I don’t always set yearly goals and when I do it goes down to the wire. I am a PROcrastinator!

  4. That is a great accomplishment, Patricia! We are decluttering, as well. Whew, what an undertaking! My hubby keeps everything and finally, he is letting go of it.

    1. I am fairly good about cleaning out unused stuff but I let it slide for a while and had more work than usual. My brother was a hoarder and it scares me to think it could happen to me.

  5. This is something we are working on as well, but we’re not done yet. You’ve inspired me to get this very thing done in 2020. Thank you for the inspiration.

    Awww on the kitty.

Have a fabulous day and week. β™₯

    1. Good luck with your 2020 project. It feels so good when it is all done. I don’t know why I put the decluttering off…just lazy, I guess.
