Monday musings…

‘Tis healthy to be sick sometimes.
Henry David Thoreau

I had my first COVID vaccine shot 3 weeks ago. Friday I had my second dose. Like the first visit there was no waiting. Went in sat down, the nurse told me the same things as before. She did say that sometimes people have reactions that they didn’t have with the first dose. She gave me the shot, I sat in the waiting area for 15 minutes, to see if any serious reactions would occur. No reactions at all so I left.

The first dose I had no reaction to at all. Second was a different story. In the evening my arm was sore and stiff. And I was feeling kinda icky. So I went to bed early. Woke up about 2 am feeling a lot worse than icky! Soaking wet, hot, shivering, hands and feet cold as ice. Got up took a couple Tylenol, changed jammies, put socks on, and went back to bed. Slept fine.

Woke up still worse than icky. Took my temperature, 102*! Took a couple more Tylenol had some toast and went back to bed. Got up in the late afternoon just feeling icky, temp 100*. More Tylenol and some soup. Temperature returned to normal and stayed there. Still felt icky. Went to bed early and woke up Sunday morning and felt my usual healthy self. YAY!

I have done what the medical folks said I should do and feel confident I won’t get the virus, though I will continue with the mask wearing and social distancing. And I have a new understanding of the quote at the beginning of this story.

  1. I am sorry you had a strong reaction to the second shot, but I am mighty glad we both have them done and can feel a bit safer going about our lives. Still masked and santized here too! ♥️💜

    1. The reaction wasn’t awful. I slept through most of it. I am glad to see you here! I have been thinking about you. Have you been posting? I haven’t seen any notifications.

    1. Thank you, Sadje. It was expected but I was surprised that it was such a high fever since the info I was given said less than 2% of those inoculated reported any fever. Thankfully it was only for a day and all is fine now.

    1. Aww, hope the afternoon was better. I wasn’t especially surprised to have a reaction but I was surprised that I felt so bad. But all better now…all’s good again.

    1. I sort of expected some reaction because I was told most people have a reaction to the second shot. But I didn’t expect to feel so sick. Everything is fine now!

  2. I too had my second dose and felt it, especially my arm. I was achy and sleepy, ate crackers and drank water in between naps. I was afraid at first, but like you, know I did the right thing, Love the Thoreau quote. We’re lucky we live in a time where such a thing as an inoculation exists, so a little sore arm is a small fee to have to pay. 🙂

    1. We are fortunate to have medicines that not only heal but can prevent disease and illness. I was surprised that I had a high fever. The info given to me said less than 2% of those inoculated experience fever. That and the fact the last time I was sick was 5 years ago. I am quite healthy…for an old lady. 🙂
