“Happiness consists not in having much,
but being content with little.”
Marguerite Gardiner, Countess of Blessington
When I was young, there was always something I didn’t have that I wanted. And there was never enough of anything. I was sure that I would be happy if only I had whatever it was that I didn’t have. Needless to say, I always wanted more of what I had, and there was always something I didn’t have that I wanted. I was never happy.
What a waste of time.
Now that I am older, I realize that having what I need is a gift and not having what I want isn’t all that important. Learning this little bit of wisdom made happiness happen. Oh, I still dream about things I would like to have but not having them is no longer a nightmare.
It is amazing how simple life can be.

Contentment and happiness is accepting the things you have and knowing what you don’t need but want.
I can relate to everything you said. I no longer need things I don’t need!
The amazing thing to me is the contentment that comes with less.
Yes, less is more, my view on life. A book, a salad in the fridge cozy in your favorite chair with peace and a cup of coffee, and in your case a coupla’ cats, well…does it get better than that?
Having what we need and being happy with who and where we are is a wonder for sure.
You learn that as you get older. Bloom where you’re planted, Love your site. 🙂
I totally get this. Thanks.
I learned simpler is better. Plus materialistic things don’t bring long-term happiness.
You are so right❣️
That’s the essence of gratitude.
Loved the opening quote Patricia.
Life is actually simple, it’s the burden of desires that complicate it. We take our own time to understand this!
We do complicate life with our misplaced desires.
Less is more in my opinion. It takes a long time to learn what’s important and what’s not.
Have a fabulous day and week, Patricia. ♥
I agree, less is more. I think I was a slow learner, but I finally got it!
I’ve learned to be content later in life too, whatever comes my way, well, at least I’m here to appreciate it!
I feel the same!😸
I was lucky. My only want was more time outside to play in the stream or woods or fields.
