I have always lived a quiet safe little life and have been happy or so I thought, but lately I have been feeling restless and bored. Surely, there is more to life than predictable days and uneventful weeks plodding along year after year. I want to go new places, try new things, meet people who are different than me, have adventures and excitement, and maybe even fall in love. It is going to be hard and I am scared, but I am going to burst the bubble of my comfort zone and go after everything I want in life. Like all children sometimes she thought life was just too complicated and confusing. What always helped her work out the puzzle of life was to go down the road to her magic place under the old Umbrella tree. She was no longer a child but at times life still seemed an impossible puzzle and she would seek a diversion to help her recapture the contentment and tranquility that had slipped away. That’s why today she finds herself walking down the road to the Umbrella tree where she will sit and let her mind wander and soon all the pains and problems of life will ease and the magic place will soothe her soul.
I thought I had found the perfect place with the best people for us to live with quietly and peacefully. The people here surprised me and I am not easily surprised. They talk sweet and nice, but they don’t love us or even like or understand us and they certainly don’t respect us. When they started teasing and playing rough with the kid, my kid, I knew we had to leave before they broke his spirit. So, here we are on the road again looking for a safe place to live, a sanctuary, a family.
In the fantasy the doors opened wide and she made a grand entrance walking down the aisle to her handsome Prince Charming. The reality was she and her not so handsome but very charming Prince were young fools running off to the Justice of the Peace. No big party with lots of guests and gifts just her and the Prince, the Justice and his wife. But the reality of fifty years of happily ever after far surpassed the fantasy of a silly young girl and her Prince Charming.
