I am joining
Ten Things of Thankful
Here is my list
The cleaning and waterproofing restoration work on the building where I live is complete. Very much needed and long overdue.
The installation of the new balcony railings will begin the end of this month. The building will look so much better and will improve property value.
I made the best vegetarian chili ever. I never use a recipe and it is always good but this time it was better than good.
I read a really good book by Jodi Picoult, Small Great Things. I always like her books but this one made me think about my feelings and beliefs regarding race more deeply and thoughtfully.
A friend I haven’t seen in awhile got in touch and we made plans to meet for lunch.
I still have petunias blooming. Even with some cold weather, they are filled with buds and blooms. Beautiful surprise.
I went to the library and it was packed. Wonderful to see so many people in one of my favorite places.
A friend wrote me the sweetest note. It came so unexpectedly, it made me get all teary-eyed and everything.
I clicked on a YouTube link and watched a hilarious video of a dog fetching things his master told him to get. The dog was so excited and got everything right. It made me laugh so hard I had to watch it several times.
I have peace in my life. Wasn’t always that way so I can appreciate it with great thankfulness.
Today I celebrate getting a sweet note from a friend.
It was like a Valentine.
The words were sweet and thoughtful and kind and lovely.
It is one of those notes that goes in the special box
where things of the heart are kept.
Today I am celebrating the handyman. It is hard to find a good handyman and I have. This guy is something of a perfectionist and always does a good job at a reasonable price. The only problem with him is that he has too much work and you have to wait forever to get an appointment with him. After several months of waiting, he was here today and did some work on a closet. It’s a large storage closet that I wanted a couple more shelves in so I can be more organized. His work is done and now I will paint and then get to work organizing all my stuff. \O/
It hasn’t been 100* once this week. It has been close to 100* but no record breaking temperatures this week.
Work has been smooth computing this week. A couple hiccups like email server down a day or two and the software we use for everyday business was down for a few hours. But even with that no major problems and it did give me time to do some filing.
Had some help straightening up the community library and now we are looking all spiffy again.
A few weeks ago I got a letter telling me that
the way I connect to the internet was being phased out by my carrier
and that I needed to upgrade or I would not have service.
What a bother.
I put it off but then I had a problem with my connection and
decided I might as well get the upgrade done now.
I called to get the deed done and was asked if I wanted a
technician to do the install or would I do it myself?
Today the technician came to set it up.
He was great.
On time, polite, respectful and had a sense of humor.
In no time, he replaced two phone jacks and installed the new equipment.
Not only did he do that but he also programmed the TV, Kindle, and Nook.
Took him all of forty-five minutes.
Now that is something to celebrate!
Several years ago I began focusing on gratitude in my daily life. I determined that I would be thankful every day. Believe me, when I say that some days it was hard to be thankful. And still there are days I feel less than thankful. But I have learned to take some time throughout the day to really think about what is happening in my little bit of the world, perhaps for just a minute or two then the day goes on as it will. That minute or two can be what keeps me from losing my temper, being frustrated, feeling depressed or sad, seeing only the negative and not recognizing the blessings that are all around me.
My daily mantra is Psalm 118:24 “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it”. It is part of my morning prayers every morning. Some days I don’t feel like rejoicing and I am not glad but I pray it anyway. Before I go to bed I pray again thankful that I had another day and there is always something in the day that gave me joy. Admittedly, some nights I have to search for that one thing but joy is there. Always.
You may think this week’s challenge was not challenging for me but it was. So often I take for granted the kindness and goodness of those around me. Sadly, sometimes I just don’t notice it. There is lots of room for improvement in this woman and I am working on it.
