Big heads…

“Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life.”
Immanuel Kant

Immanuel_Kant_3Immanuel Kant was born in Prussia April 22, 1774 and lived 79 years.  He was not an exceptional student but went on to become a philosopher of great influence; teaching and writing on many subjects.

He was never married but was considered a sociable man well liked by his students and friends, but perhaps a bit strict and predictable in his personal life

At the age of 46 he entered a time devoted to study, research and writing.  During this time, he had little contact with others and it has been called his silent period lasting 11 years.

What I read about Kant on Wikipedia was interesting, but what was most interesting to me was his head.(Maybe this was   most interesting to me because it was one of the few things written that I can say I understood.) When his body was moved from its original resting place to a mausoleum near Konigsberg Cathedral in Russia scientists measured his skull and found it larger than the average German male. Portraits of him depict a man with a large and broad forehead. This brought about the discussion about as to whether the portraits show a big forehead because he was a philosopher or because he really had a big head because of his intellect.

This leads me to wonder was his head bigger than average when he was born?  Or did his brain grow bigger from his intellectual exercises and pursuits and so his head had to grow to accommodate it?

My average but inquiring mind would like to know.
