whatever!

Do you have a memory that’s linked to a smell?

I have thought about this all day and all I can think of is my mother. She had a distinct smell about her that was all her own. It wasn’t her perfume or the soap she used. It was just her personal fragrance. I haven’t smelled it in a long time, she took it with her when she died. I miss her fragrant presence.

  1. I remember very clearly the smell of my grandmother’s Evening in Paris perfumes and powders. Pretty found several bottles in one of her antique treasure hunting and bought them for me. I keep them on my desk and sniff one whenever I long to visit with her.

  2. I had an Uncle Teddy who was a chemist for Estee Lauder and gave everyone bottles of Youth Due, a very pungent scent.

They still make it. When I find myself near one of their counters at Saks or Bloomingdales, it hits me like a train.

Good old Uncle Teddy. I always liked him. He raised bees in his backyard and when I was little, he’d let me visit them buzzing, the way cats meow when they spot a new face ::)
