J is for joy…

colorful-1313027_640is for joy

joy

Everyone wants to be happy.
Everyone searches high and low for it.
Everyone has their own idea of what happiness is.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to be happy.
You have every right to be light-hearted and cheerful.
It is a good thing to be high-spirited and vivacious.

However, you must be aware that happiness is momentary.
Being happy is not promised to be constant in life.
It comes and goes like the wind.

There is something that is greater than happiness.
It is a promise and neverending.
It is an enduring presence in your heart.

This extraordinary thing is simply, joy.
It is in your heart, planted deeply and firmly rooted.
It is steady and quiet but can burst out and trumpet loudly.

Knowing joy is different than being happy.
Unlike being happy, joy doesn’t depend or need outward things.
It’s a beautiful gift, batteries not included or required.

Be someone who knows the gift of joy.

  1. Love burst out and trumpet loudly. So poetic Patricia. I’m overly sensitive. Always have been, but the upside to that is, I feel joy though fleeting, down to my socks. 🙂

    1. Thanks for the encouragement though any poetic words from me are rare surprises. You may think joy is fleeting but the truth is it is ever abiding within you. You just don’t always feel it.

  2. Well said. Joy comes from deep within and is ongoing. Our happiness can be disrupted by the dumbest littlest things. You can bring unhappiness to me temporarily, but I have a joy in my heart that no one can steal.

  3. Patricia,

You’re right joy isn’t always with us just like any other emotion. We all certainly want to experience joy all the time but that’s not realistic but I do believe we can contribute to just how joyful our lives are by the choices we make. ‘Joy’ was the name of my late grandma. Joyce is on her birth certificate but everyone called her ‘Joy’ and she was just that pure joy. Thanks for the joyful post and smiles!
